First of its Kind: Pediatric Focused-Mission in Iloilo City

On February 10-11 2023, the World Surgical Foundation Philippines held its first-ever Pediatric Surgical Outreach in Iloilo, serving a total of 26 indigent pediatric patients suffering from anorectal malformations and Hirschsprung's disease.

Together with the World Surgical Foundation, and in partnership with the Western Visayas Medical Center, this focused-mission, a first of its kind, advocates for a better quality of life for children born with intestinal and anorectal defects and brings hope to older children who have long been struggling and living with a colostomy bag. Through this, we aspire to help children grow and live a life free from colostomy.

The surgical outreach activity was made possible through the support of the City of Iloilo, Province of Iloilo, Sun Life Philippines, Calmoseptine, Inc., Ansell, idsMED, Eon Centennial Plaza Hotel, The Cathay Drug Company Inc., Getz Pharma Philippines, Philippine College of Surgeons Foundation Inc Surgery for the Underserved Regions and for Education Commission (PCS - SURE), Philippine Society of Anesthesiologists, Inc. (PSA), PSA - Panay Chapter, Philippine Society of Pediatric Surgeons, Philippine Pediatric Society, Inc. - Western Visayas Chapter, Operating Room Nurses Association of the Philippines (ORNAP), and ORNAP - Panay Chapter.

The post was really inspiring because it showed how a paediatric surgical mission can change the lives of children and families who need care the most. During a health policy project, I was using Economics Assignment Service UK and reading about access to healthcare, so this story felt especially meaningful to me. It reminded me that community support and medical outreach can give people hope and create lasting change for those in need.
